Supporting Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust Charity

One Running Movement, in collaboration with Planet-U Energy, have gifted 100 places to Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust Charity, and opened general entries for The Tree Run | Virtual for anyone wishing to support the NHS Trust Charity.

“The Tree Run” is a virtual event taking place on 25th April, and for every runner a tree is planted in Yorkshire by Planet-U Energy, in their woodland nature reserve with a biodegradable plaque featuring the runner’s name or dedicated to a friend, relative or loved one.Runners also receive a wooden medal that is ethically and sustainably sourced.

100 hospital staff members and friends of the Trust will be taking part to raise money for the Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust Charity The charity makes a difference by funding projects and initiatives that enhance care and improve patient, visitor and staff experience but fall outside of standard NHS provision. The money raised from The Tree Run will help fund staff wellbeing initiatives such as dedicated emotional support for frontline staff, which is particularly important during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Tree Run is classed as an honesty run, and the chosen distance can range from 5K to marathon, in line with the individual’s health and wellbeing goals. The distance needs to be completed on or by Sunday 25th April 2021 and it can be run or walked alone or with others (in line with current COVID-19 rules).

A picture of the tree will be sent to each participant within 12 months of it being planted, and the trees for Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust Charity will be planted together in the Planet-U Energy nature reserve and woodland.

Jo Gennari, General Manager at Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust and founder of #TeamLGT, commented“I am proud to say that we have got a team of 100 runners taking part in The Tree Run this April. A big thank you to One Running Movement for gifting 100 places that allow us to raise funds, and to anyone else entering The Tree Run in aid of Lewisham and Greenwich NHS Trust. In addition to the benefits of running for our health we love that a tree is not only planted, but that we can dedicate that tree to a loved one. We have sadly lost a number of colleagues during the COVID-19 pandemic. We will be running in their memory and will dedicate our trees to them.”

Run for Climate Change 2021

Run for Climate Change continues into 2021 with support from familiar faces

Run For Climate Change is a new annual virtual event created in 2020 and growing in 2021.

After the great success and interest in the 2020/2021 event, the collaboration between One Running Movement and Planet-U Energy continues with 2,000 places just released for 2021/2022.

To kick off the 2021 launch Planet-U Energy CEO Grant Nicholson pledged to run 7 Marathons across the month of March with an average of 10K a day. Today saw former Leeds Rhinos star Jamie Peacock MBE joining Grant on a socially distanced 10K at Leeds’s Roundhay Park.

#GrantsMarchMarathons aims to raise awareness about climate change and One Running Movement’s pledge to People, Planet and Purpose.

Classed as an honesty run, the chosen distance needs to be completed by 31st March 2022. The distance can be run or walked and can be done as an individual, a business or a family to encourage #MoveForLife whilst making a collective difference to planet health as well as mental and physical health, an all round winner!

Yorkshire by Planet-U Energy with a biodegradable plaque featuring the runner’s name or dedicated to a friend, relative or loved one.

There have been some amazing runner stories so far and heart-warming dedications of the trees to loved ones and family lost for various reasons including Covid-19. In addition to the names on the biodegradable plaques a page on the One Running Movement website will feature messages to loved ones.

Runners of all ages can sign up to run a chosen distance of 5K, 10K, Half Marathon or Marathon, in line with their health and wellbeing goals, and by doing so they aim to achieve the following:

  1. Helping themselves by being active and having a positive goal to aim or train for
  2. Helping to educate by raising awareness of climate change and renewable energy
  3. Helping communities where the wooden medals are made
  4. Helping charities who are committed to climate change and mental health
  5. Helping the planet by a tree being planted in Yorkshire woodland for every runner taking part

Samaritans and Surfers Against Sewage are the benefiting charities, with £1 from every Run for Climate Change entry donated to each charity.

A picture of the tree will be sent to each runner within 12 months of it being planted.

One Running Movement have now unveiled the details of their latest initiative which is supported by Planet-U Energy as well as their Foundation Partners.

There is one huge point of difference with this virtual event – runners don’t just get a wooden medal that is ethically and sustainably sourced whilst supporting local communities, for every entry received a tree is planted in Yorkshire by Planet-U Energy with a biodegradable plaque featuring the runner’s name. A picture of the tree will be sent to each runner within 12 months of it being planted. £2 of the entry fee is also donated to environmental and mental health charities.

With running and movement such a large contributing factor to mental health, the organisers have announced that registrations for Run for Climate Change 2020 open on World Mental Health Day which is observed on 10th October each year.

  3. Helping communities where the wooden medals are made
  4. Helping charities who are committed to climate change and mental health

Samaritans and Surfers Against Sewage have been confirmed as the benefiting charities from the Run for Climate Change entries with £1 from each entry donated to each charity.

Registrations for #RunForClimateChange open this Saturday 10th October at 10.10 am, and runners can complete their pledged distance from the end of October to the end of December 2020. Different entries are available for individuals, families or businesses, with adult entry (age 17+) at £12 and children / young adults entry (age 16 and under) at £6, with everyone receiving the same rewards.

A total of 2,000 places are being launched on the 10th October at 10.10am for 2020 virtual Run For Climate Change event.

Grant Nicholson, Chief Executive of Planet-U Energy said: “Planet-U Energy has been working closely with One Running Movement over the last few months, and we are pleased to be part of this latest inspirational initiative that comes with so many benefits for the planet, communities, charities and both physical and mental health.

“We at Planet-U Energy feel passionate about tackling social change across all areas as well as renewable energy and climate change. We are proud to be planting trees in Yorkshire as part of this initiative and we are excited to work with ORM and their partners to ensure that our communities and our planet become healthier.”

Joe Williams and Rebecca Richardson, Founders of One Running Movement, added: “In today’s world there are many factors that affect mental health, and climate change plays a big role with the future of our planet at risk. We are excited to launch Run for Climate Change as an annual virtual event to start, and we will announcing further news over the coming months.

“We are calling these ‘honesty runs’ and we feel that everybody needs to make a personal commitment in line with own health and wellbeing goals, from a choice to run 5K, 10K, Half Marathon or Marathon distance, our movers pledge the miles. Trees are the ultimate carbon capture and storage machines so to speak, and it’s amazing that runners can contribute to Planet-U Energy planting trees at one of their Yorkshire locations for each Run for Climate Change entry received. Climate change is also closely linked to mental health and anxiety for many, and we are excited to offer an event in collaboration with Planet-U Energy that addresses both.”

“We are proud to be creating valuable funds through Run For Climate Change for Surfers Against Sewage and Samaritans. We have pledged to donate £1 to each charity equally for every runner that takes part. We are creating an equilibrium and raising awareness about the connection between environment changes, movement and mental health by all working together.”
