One Running Movement welcomes Yvonne Harrison and Tony Farrar to the board

The organisers of One Running Movement, a collaborative evolution for movement and change, have announced that Yvonne Harrison and Tony Farrar will be joining the board as Directors.

The two new Directors will be supporting One Running Movement in its mission to make a difference to current and future generations through movement, running and collaboration. Their appointment comes at a time of huge growth for the movement as it continues in its drive to encourage children, families and individuals across the UK to become more active and #MoveForLife, through inclusive challenges such as the highly successful Schools Half Marathon and One Running Movement events.

Yvonne Harrison is an award-winning executive with a wealth of experience across the sport and physical activity sector. She currently works for the Class of 92, as Managing Director of Project 92, working across their education and sports portfolio. Prior to this, Yvonne led GreaterSport, a Greater Manchester Charity, to outstanding success during her four years as Chief Executive, improving results in terms of both performance and profile.

Yvonne was a key influence in galvanising the Greater Manchester network to produce Greater Manchester Moving, supporting the ambition of devolution with the full support of the Greater Manchester Mayor, Andy Burnham. Yvonne also has a number of non-executive roles across the sporting arena and an extensive network of senior leaders within the sector.

Tony Farrar has spent almost two decades assisting UK government departments in designing and implementing policy communication strategies. In addition to successfully creating a public sector events subsidiary and founding a leading public policy communications business, he went on to co-found two new socially focused organisations, Why Sports and Govconnect. These organisations seek to deliver policy communications through a unique conference engagement model, whilst leaving a lasting legacy of social and financial contributions towards the policy ambitions being realised.

Tony is a firm believer that active environments and physical activity are fundamental human rights for all, irrespective of socioeconomic backgrounds, gender or age. As a father of two young daughters, physical literacy is paramount to him. The removal of barriers and associated stigmas related to physical activity, the creation of active communities and improving population health are now his main focus.

The support of these two leading figures in the industry is a positive and exciting step for One Running Movement ahead of the upcoming year. In 2019 / 2020, Schools Half Marathon alone will see thousands of primary school pupils achieve their very own cumulative half marathon in 25+ locations across the UK including Northern Ireland, earning rewards along the way and completing their final 1.1 mile at an organised event in front of teachers, family and friends. Fully inclusive and non-competitive, the movement is playing an important part in encouraging youngsters, their families and individuals to embrace movement through regular physical activity, reduce screen time and build confidence through sport.

Schools Half Marathon has 12 Foundation Partners and Powered by Partners who are working together to drive the movement forwards with founders Rebecca Richardson and Joe Williams. The announced Foundation Partners include specialist running retailer Up & Running, sports and fitness technology leaders Polar, leading ethical water brand One, global communications company Poly and global charity partner Save the Children.

One Running Movement Co-Founders Rebecca Richardson and Joe Williams commented, “We are thrilled to welcome Yvonne Harrison and Tony Farrar to the board of Directors at One Running Movement. They each bring valuable industry experience and insight which will be key as we work together to get the nation more active and make a difference to current and future generations’ health and wellbeing through our various collaborations and activations.

“There is no doubting the positive impact of movement and regular physical activity on health and wellbeing and we are proud that thousands of young runners, families and individuals will experience this for themselves as they take on Schools Half Marathon and One Running Movement events over the upcoming year. We have many more exciting plans and further strong supportive announcements for the months ahead, and are very much looking forward to working with Tony and Yvonne to take One Running Movement forwards together.”

Speaking of her appointment, Yvonne said, “It’s an incredibly exciting time to be working with One Running Movement. The company is growing at a significant rate, which will impact the lives of so many people through being more active. The Board is made up of people with complementary skills, lots of vision and huge passion to make a difference. Added to this we have our exciting partner network, advisory committee and nationwide coverage. Collectively we can have a real impact at scale, combining innovation, ambition and purpose and I’m delighted to be a part of this.”

Tony Farrar added, “I am proud to announce my appointment to the board of directors at One Running Movement. This amazing organisation and team are delivering some of the most exciting work I have encountered in the movement and activity space, and are already working with some of the leading brands across the sport sector. The combined expertise across the organisation coupled with the amazing vision and initiatives in place made this an absolute no brainer for me. Through the work of my other businesses I am acutely aware of the huge challenges tackling inactivity, childhood obesity and the wider long-term conditions and population health strategies. One Running Movement will in my opinion contribute heavily towards the attainment of these goals and will more importantly be a lot of fun for all involved. I look forward to being a part of the board and advisory committee.”
