On 9th December 2019 Steve Watkins passed away unexpectedly after suffering a sudden cardiac arrest, aged just 54 and leaving behind his wife Sarah and two young boys Oliver and Sam.
Steve was a well-known and much respected photographer (amongst many other achievements), and he kindly offered to take photos at Schools Half Marathon Brighton & Hove in June 2019 for us. His wife Sarah is the Regional Lead for East Sussex, West Sussex and Kent, with both Sarah and Steve believing in the power of sport and spending many family holidays biking, hiking, skiing and swimming.
Steve has left many legacies behind, and we feel proud and privileged that some of the best photos capturing the ethos and spirit of One Running Movement were taken by Steve, this includes the iconic photo shown above.
We had known Steve on a personal level for over a decade, and he truly made this world a better place. His kind, calm and strong personality will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Steve was a very active person with a huge love for his family and the great outdoors, actively encouraging and nurturing his wife’s and boys’ enthusiasm for sports and running. Sarah will be running Brighton Half Marathon in February with some friends in memory of Steve and to help raise funds for a trip to the mountains to scatter his ashes.

RIP, Steve. Your legacy will live forever and you will never be forgotten.
